DO YOU DO HAND STRIPPING
Yes, we do offer this and will be discussed at your initial meeting with us.
DO YOU DO LARGE DOGS
Yes we do. We cater for all sizes although larger dogs will be more expensive than smaller dogs.
DOES THE GROOM INCLUDE NAILS
The full groom always includes nails although we will make exceptions for dogs that are either overly aggressive or nervous in which case we would recommend you see your vet.
CAN I STAY WITH MY PET DURING THE GROOM
We do not advise staying while your dog is being groomed as this proves too much of a distraction for the animal. We need your pet’s undivided attention and most behave better without their owners there. We are quite happy for you to come and look at our salon during times when we are not grooming. Should a difficulty with a dog arise the owner will be called immediately.
WHAT SHAMPOOS DO YOU USE
We only use top quality, professional shampoos made from all natural products. We stock a wide variety of shampoos so are sure to have a shampoo suited for your dog’s coat type. If your vet has prescribed a shampoo for your dog we will be happy to use it but must be provided with written instructions along with the shampoo.
WHEN SHOULD I START HAVING MY PUPPY GROOMED
As soon as your puppy has completed its vaccinations it should start to make regular visits for grooming. The earlier they start, the easier it will be for them. Similarly, home grooming should start early so they become used to brushing.
WILL MY DOG RECEIVE TREATS
We often treat dogs during their groom as this helps build up a trusting relationship between the dog and the groomer. If your dog has a special diet or medical condition that does not permit treating, please inform us when dropping your dog off. Alternatively, you may wish to bring a few permitted treats with you for us to give to them.
We do not sedate any animals under any circumstances. Only a veterinary practice can prescribe the drugs for this. There may be occasions when we will recommend a client seeks veterinary advice if we cannot groom a difficult dog for their own safety. We also cannot administer drugs for you. Please ask your vet for advice on such matters.
WILL MY DOG BE MUZZLED
It is very seldom that a dog will be muzzled as we prefer to build up a mutual trust between the dog and the groomer, however dogs that show signs of aggression or biting/licking at the clippers and/or scissors will be muzzled for both their safety and ours.
MY DOG HAS FLEAS
Dogs with fleas will be washed with a flea shampoo that will kill all fleas on the dog. As we cannot take any chances that other dogs in our care will get fleas there will be an extra charge. We take full measures to ensue that our environment is free of fleas.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST
We purposely don’t advertise our prices on here as the price is very dependent on the breed of dog, the grooming requirements and the condition of their coat. When you first make an appointment we can give you our general price for the breed assuming that it conforms to the following:
Average size, Coat Groomed Regularly, Co-Operative behaviour
Additional charges may apply for non standard breed size and /or coat, matted coats, trimming beyond standard for breed, non co-operative behaviour, aggressive behaviour
Please note that all verbal quotes and estimates are not definite and binding. They may be subject to variation according to circumstances
Most dogs have a few matts/knots and we cover their removal in our full groom. Excessive matting is not only time consuming to remove but can also prove stressful and painful for the animal. We will do our best to remove matts without cutting the hair away, however in some instances, cutting away the matt is the best and only option for the dog and the groomer. If a dog has a severely matted coat it is our policy to shave the whole coat using electric clippers with a close blade. We will never shave a coat off without prior consultation and the permission of the owner. In these circumstances it is more humane to clipper the dog as dematting would cause the dog tremendous stress and discomfort. Shaving the coat is quicker and ultimately more gentle on the dog. Many dogs can be traumatised by unnessary hours of dematting which can put them off grooming for life. Dogs feel different after shaving; lighter, off balance and cooler. Most will be glad to have freedom of movement again and will be full of life, however others may take it as a personal insult and sulk for a few days after. Regardless of how he looks afterwards, he will feel 100% better.
MAKING AN APPOINTMENT
We operate an appointment only system and details can be found on our contacts page. We recommend contacting us at least two weeks before you would like your dog to be groomed. Please feel free to contact us to see if we can offer an earlier appointment as we may have cancellations. We also recommend your dog is groomed every 6-8 weeks to keep him clean, tangle free and happy. We will offer to book your next appointment when you collect your dog in order to a get a time that suits you. Home grooming is essential however if you do not have time to groom him yourself, you should consider a professional groom on a more regular basis, even if it’s just a brush through to keep the coat free of matts.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
We are aware that problems crop up suddenly meaning you can’t manage your appointment. If you have to cancel, please contact us as soon as possible, preferably giving at least 24 hours notice. We will try to rebook you as soon as is convenient for you.
